Mountfichet Castle
Mountfichet Castle is located at Stansted Mountfichet. This Motte and Bailey castle went through Roman, Saxon and Viking hands, before 1066 when the Normans made it into a castle like you see today. Why is it worth visiting? Essex boasts many beautiful castles. However, Mountfichet is the only castle that is rebuilt on its original site.
